Rural Probation Work And Effective Practice

While many of the world's probation services operate in societies which are largely rural, most probation work in the UK takes place in urban settings, reflecting the predominantly urban nature of our society. After twenty years as a probation officer, the last ten in rural Shropshire, Ian Hankinson reflects on his experience of probation work in rural areas and explores both the unique nature of rural probation practice and its relationship to current trends in probation work in general.
