Contacting Victims: Critical Issues for Probation StaffSince the publication of the Victims' Charter (1996) and Probation Circular 61/95, the requirement has become well established for Probation Services to make contact with victims, or their relatives, after the imprisonment and before the release of a serious offender whose crime is of a serious sexual or violent nature. Peter Johnston, Senior Probation Officer in West Yorkshire, draws on local experiences of victim work to highlight some of the most important issues in the provision of a sensitive and high quality victim service.
